Happy New Year!

Good morning and Merry Christmas!

Here's a few pics of our decorated community center.........

They really did a very nice job making it look so festive. Almost makes me want to go and work out more often.   Almost. :-)

And here's some pics from my morning walk around our community....

We're glad to see this year over, but next year isn't looking a lot better as of right now. But we can hope this virus thing gets defeated and we can get back to a more normal life. Although we really can't complain that much. Everything is open. At least we're not having to work all day with a mask. And we pretty much can do whatever we want to do. And....we have our health. So, we are blessed.

Wishing everyone a healthy happy New Year!

Merry Christmas!

Good afternoon.
This is a heavy picture post, since I haven't posted in a while. :-)
We got the yard decorated for Christmas, and invited some neighbors over for the official lighting......

And a couple of days later, I finished decorating the inside of the house.....
That's a Christmas screen saver I put on the TV to add to the holiday mood.
And my Crystal Forest campground....

So, we're all ready for the holidays!
And yesterday, we went down to Fremont street with Dan and Daniel for some afternoon people watching and lunch at Nacho Daddy's.
Fremont street never disappoints when it comes to people watching. And for a Friday afternoon, it was very busy! But it's a weekend, and the Wrangler NFR Rodeo is in town. So, we saw a lot of cowboy hats, boots and very large belt buckles.   :-)
That, and all the interesting street performers.  🙄

But it's always a good time downtown, and nice to drive back to our quiet community. Living in such an exciting city has many opportunities for things to do, if you want to.
And with the mild weather, we've had several driveway get togethers.  I don't know why our house has to be the local hangout spot for many of our neighbors, but I'm happy they like coming over.
So, life is good in the desert!

My Nov post.. :-)

Good morning.
I see I'm late posting again, so I need to do a whole month of catch-up.
Since fall is here and temps have cooled into the 70's and 80's, it's pie baking time again!

So here's my first apple pie of the season. I used Fuji Apples and it turned out real good!
And gas has gone up here like the rest of the country, and probably more! It's running around $3.89 a gallon, but I got it for this.......
We shop at Smith's, and you get so much off a gallon depending on how much you spend. I also can do a survey once a week from their receipts for another $.5 off a gallon. And  one week, they were offering 400 fuel points with a $50 purchase. Well that doesn't take long with the way prices have gone up.Every little bit helps!
And we've been seeing a lot of these little butterflies on my creeping Lantana.....
And we just got back from a little staycation.
Spent 2 nights down on Fremont street at The D. Ate, drank, did a lot of people watching, and of course, a little gambling......
Which we did pretty good for a change! Paid for all our gambling, and some of our food and drink!~
And today, I have my monthly property and grounds committee meeting. We're starting the process of determining what to do with the grassy areas around the community center that have to go. The state has passed a law banning all nonfunctional turf. So, unless it's in a park, on a playground, on a golf course, or in your backyard, it cannot be watered starting in 2027. So that is the main focus of our committee for a while.
Then after the meeting, we'll meet at the 3100 Grill for a late lunch. 2 of the committee members are also friends of ours.
And we just paid the balance on a winter cruise. First one since Covid, and our Hawaiian cruise back in
Jan of 2020.
So I guess that catches you up for a while.

flowers blooming well this time of year.

Good afternoon.
The weather is great with temps in the 80's.
Here's some pics I took this morning of my back yard.....

This rose is called Purple Tiger. Every flower is unique in it's pattern.

The Vinca has done very well this year. It's almost time to swap them out for Geraniums for the cooler weather to come.

And a Raspberry Lantana.
Went on a bus trip to Bolder City for a massive Art Fair. Had a nice time, but didn't buy anything. The things I saw I liked, were way more than I wanted to pay. It's always like that at art fairs. But it was a nice day trip, and we didn't have to drive and find parking. It was the first trip we took that was put together by our lifestyle community person. She does many trips a month, but most we haven't been interested in. And we have a busy weekend coming up. Friday is shredding day at the community center, along with a Sketchers mobile truck, and food trucks. Saturday is our community wide garage sale, where Craig is hoping to find a cheap present for my birthday.  :-)

Then Sunday, we're heading to Laughlin for a 2 nighter.
So a lot going on.
I got my booster shot for Covid, and they are also giving shots at the community center Friday.
We also got our flu shots a couple of weeks ago, so we should be in good shape for the winter.
And that's it for now.

pie and shots.

Good afternoon,
The weather is getting very nice and cool. High today in the upper 80's and no humidity! Perfect!
We had our first driveway happy hour yesterday with 3 neighbors.
Neighbors are slowly coming back for the winter. Char and Ken arrived yesterday, so no more picking up their mail. At least for a while.
Craig and I went to Smith's earlier this week and got our Pfizer booster shots.

It's also time to start my pie baking again. And my first pie was a Pineapple Pie with a Pecan Crumb topping.

It's light and yummy!
I'm still walking every morning, but I've gotten lazy about going to the fitness center. It's just too easy to find an excuse not to go.  :-)
That's about it for now....

playing catch-up

Good afternoon.
We are going into the 2nd best weather of the year. The first being spring.   :-)   our highs are in the 90's and lows in the low 70's. We do have an occasional smoky day from the California fires, but not too often.
I'm still walking every morning. Some days with Dave, some with Dan and Daniel, and sometimes with Dave and Gloria. So I've been averaging around 3-5 miles each morning. It doesn't seem to be helping with my weight much, but that's because we've been eating out 1-2 times every week.
And despite the heat, out flowers are looking pretty good....

I also got me a pair of Bluetooth earbuds......

I got the kind that fit over the ear, because I have problems with regular earbuds staying in my ear. I think they're made for younger people and not older people with big floppy ears.  😉

They're so nice to use and I like not having a cord running to my phone.  And, while I'm walking, if a song comes on I'm not crazy about, I don't have to pull out my phone, open the app, and change the song. I just tap the right earbud twice, and it goes to the next song. Pretty nifty! Technology is great as long as you know how to use it!  And, they store in a nice little rechargeable case, so they are always ready to use. And, they were just $18.
I'm currently watching 3 houses and getting mail for 2 of them. One couple should be home the end of the month, and the other 2 by the end of October.
My stint on the Property and Grounds committee is going well. I have not been to a meeting yet. They keep getting cancelled for lack of items on the agenda. I'm told we should be busier in the fall.
And October is looking to be a busy month. The 3rd, we're taking a bus tour down to Boulder City for a very large art fair. On the 8th is another Food Truck Friday at the community center parking lot, along with a paper shredding truck that Craig is getting ready to use. Then the 9th and 10th is the community garage sale. Craig thinks that is a good time to find me a birthday present.  Then the 21st is the next Property and Grounds meeting. So it looks to be a busy October.
That's it for now....

trip to Flag

Good evening.
Back at the end of August, we took a week long trip to Flagstaff, AZ. We go there every year to escape the heat. Flagstaff sits at 7000 ft., so the temps are usually around 20 to 30 degrees cooler than Vegas.

And of course, the main thing we do there besides enjoying the cool temps, is eating and drinking!

The  University of Northern Arizona is here, so the downtown has a lot of restaurants and bars.
And here's the suite we get at the Marriot Residence Inn that is right downtown.....

It's a very large nicely appointed room with a full kitchen and huge windows.   And this is a view out our room....

The mountains in the background are the tallest in Arizona. And yes, they have skiing in the winter.
So, we had a great time! Good food, and a nice break from the Vegas heat.

Fremont street.

Good evening. Last week, we went down to Fremont street with some friends, Dan and Daniel...

They hadn't been down there is several years, so we showed them the new Circa.
We had a very nice time. And while we were there, we had lunch at Nacho Daddy., just off Fremont street.......

This place has the best nacho's!!
And Dan had to try their famous Scorpion shot.....

Yes, that's a real dead scorpion in that shot glass. Stinger removed....
He downed it and we thought he was going to throw up. I probably would have!
But it was fun over all. and great weather!

a mid August post.

Good morning. Here's some pics from one of my morning walks on the golf course....

Above are to fellow walkers, Dan and Daniel that I've been walking with a lot while Dave is on vacation.

I love walking the golf course early in the morning. It's cooler than the sidewalks, and very picturesque.
I'm currently watching 5 houses and getting mail for 4. Brian and Laura will be home next Tuesday, and Dave and Gloria will be home a week from Saturday, so that will ease up on my job.  :-)
I also was notified yesterday, that our board approved my appointment to the Property and grounds committee. My first meeting will be next Thursday.
We are picking up our jeep from the dealer today. We dropped it off yesterday for a recall issue. Something with the oil level or something.
And that's it for now....
