busy, busy, busy!

Good morning.
It's been a very busy week!
Barbie, the former neighbor who moved back to Illinois, was here for a week. She arrived Thursday with her daughter, and spent a few days on the strip. They saw the Garth Brooks concert at Allegiant Stadium Saturday, and her daughter left Sunday. Barbie then came out and stayed at the Aliante Hotel/casino for 3 nights. So we were able to walk Monday and Tuesday, and have lunch and afternoon cocktails every day. It was soo good to see her again.

View of the golf course behind the community center.
The last 3 pics were taken in our newly enlarged community center. She moved while it was all under construction, and I wanted her to see how it turned out.
Yesterday, was my 'interview' with the Property and Grounds committee. It went pretty quick. I only was asked 2 questions. But I did elaborate on my life experiences, and had pictures of my yard from Michigan, my backyard here I designed, and our Salon we designed. I also told them I had been commissioned to design the patio garden for a coffee shop, and also a doctors office. And besides working in the Salon, I also managed staff, and dealt with vendors. And I helped coordinate the yearly plant sale for Cooley Gardens. A city owned park with a volunteer group called Friends of Cooley Gardens. So after all that, I guess no one had any other questions. Oh, I did get asked, since I was from the state of Michigan, "State or Michigan?" Fortunately, I answered State. He was from Ohio, and Ohio State and University of  Michigan are hated rivals. So I hopefully got his vote.   :-)
They then excused me and I went next door to the 3100 Grill at our adjoining golf course, while they discussed my possible appointment. I met Craig and Dan there. Daniel, who is also on the committee, joined us a little later after the meeting was over. He said no one voted against my appointment. So, now the recommendation goes to the board of directors, which meets again August 12th. Usually, the board approves the recommendations, so I should be on the committee for the August 19th meeting.
Then, the waitress and cook came out of the kitchen with a cake and sang happy birthday! It was Daniel's birthday, and Dan had brought a cake to have them surprise him with.
And now I'm currently watching 6 houses, and getting mail for 5 of them. The wall in my one room has bags all along it with sticky notes above with their names so I remember what bag to put each mail in. And, I'm watering potted plants at 2 of the houses. So, I'm keeping myself pretty busy.   :-)

Someone's view of me.

Good morning.
Surprise, surprise! Another post!
We're having a heat  wave here in Vegas and we broke a 90 year record high yesterday of 114.
We may break records all weekend! And just as a friend arrives for a 6 day visit. Lucky her!
But I'm still walking in the morning, which is very nice. Temps around the high 80's.
I just make sure I'm home not long after the sun gets over the roof lines.
Many of our neighbors are gone for an extended time. To escape the heat no doubt.  :-)
So I'm currently watching 5 houses. 3 I'm watering plants, and 3 I'm getting mail, and the occasional package. One of our friends that I sometimes walk with is also an artist. He has done many interesting pieces. Here's one he recently did......

They are caricatures of his neighbors and friends. He did several, but I posted this one because, if you look closely, you might see Craig and I.   :-)
Let me know who you think we are.  :-)
I also got talked in to volunteering for a committee in our community. It's the Property and Grounds committee. I get interviewed this week by the committee, and will find out on Aug 11th if I was recommended to the Board and they approved me.  I've resisted volunteering in the past, because I didn't want to have any commitments. I really like the freedom of retirement. But the committee only meets once a month, and if you miss one here and there, no biggie. But if I do get on the committee, This is the first item I'll bring up........

Whoever designed this originally, never seemed to be concerned about people using the sidewalk. This is one of the driveways into our community center, and as you can see, the only way to get around the sign is to walk up and around it in the driveway, or walk out by the street.

Now I could submit it to the committee now, and they could discuss it, and maybe recommend to the board to take some sort of action, but I think I might have a better chance if I'm actually on the committee.
Anyway, getting ready for my trip to Michigan. Everything here in Vegas is back open 100%.  Feels good not to wear masks and sanitize everything. I was hoping the FAA would get rid of the masks for airports and planes, but with Covid cases spiking again, they probably won't. I just hope they don't mandate masks again because of the spike. I did my part, and 97% of all the new cases are people that are unvaccinated. And now the vaccine is easy for anyone to get. So  I shouldn't have to wear a mask just because they don't want the vaccine. It's now their risk, not everyone's.
So anyway, despite the heatwave, I'd still rather be in Vegas than humid, buggy Midwest!
