finally catching up.

Good morning. I know. It's been nearly 3 weeks without a post.
So here we go.....
Two weeks ago, My ex neighbor, Barbie, (whose husband died last Nov. and she sold the house and moved back to Illinois) came out for a visit. She was originally coming out for the first concert in our new stadium, but of course, with Covid, that was cancelled. But she came out anyway, and we got to spend a few days with her.

She spent two nights out here at the Aliante casino hotel, so we were able to walk together each morning. We also had lunch with her at TGI Friday's one day, and at the Draft House the second day. Then we drove her downtown to Fremont street, where she spent a couple more nights at the Golden Nugget. We met her one day there at Pizza Rock for lunch. It was really nice seeing her again, and she said she'll be back in February.
Of course, now we have another week yet to see if we got the Covid from going to all these places. We were as careful as we could be, except we were with Barbie a lot, and who knows what she might have been exposed to.
And here's a couple of  pics from one of my morning walks...

This time of year, when it's even in the 80's in the morning, I like to walk the golf course, where the temps could be 10-20 degrees cooler. Just need to be off before the golfers come on around 6:30. I love having a golf course weave through our community. It's like we live near all these parks! All the green is a nice change from all our stones.
And here's a pic of the Bromeliad that was given to Barbie after Harry died. I somehow inherited it, and have been watching it grow!
It's sent out 3 babies, and they are doing very well. I had read that the parent plant would die, but it looks just fine, so we'll see.
Craig loves his new 10 inch Galaxy Tab tablet. I finally talked him into getting new ones since our 7 inch Nexus 7's were getting pretty old.  I think he spends more time on that then his puter. He's currently addicted to this water color paint by number app.
We broke a weather record. We had the warmest August on Record! We were headed toward another record. The longest stretch of above 100 degree days. That ended at 45 days yesterday, which only hit 98. The record, from 1944, was 66 days. We've also gone 137 days with no rain. Our monsoonal season was a complete bust!
Well, that's it from Sunny Las Vegas!

weekend update.

Good morning.
Well, today is day 10, since we left Flagstaff, and we're both still symptom free! And since they are currently saying symptoms usually show in 4-5 days, and 97% in 10 days, I think we're going to be okay.   :-)
And here's my latest blueberry pie.....

The crumb topping turned out perfect this time! A nice crisp crunch!

We're in the midst of a record setting heat wave, so I've been on plant watching mode. Upped my watering schedule for the next week. We tied a record high of 113 yesterday, and we're forecast to hit 114 each day for the next 3. It's still better than the 125 they had yesterday in death valley.   :-)
And we still sat out yesterday afternoon with our mister fan. But I think we like the heat better than some. We keep the inside around 81. Two of my neighbors keep theirs at 76, and 79. We sometimes turn ours down to 79 at night, but keep it at 80 - 81 during the day. We also have ceiling fans that do help a lot.
Currently picking up mail for 2 neighbors, and house watching for one neighbor. That means going inside once a month and running water down all the drains so they don't dry out.
Mailed a hair care package back to Michigan for an old friend there.
And that's about all I have to tell. We're so very happy that we're retired during this difficult time.
Take care, wear a mask, and stay safe!

An escape from routine

Good morning.I know it's been a long time since my last post, but haven't done much or gone anywhere.....until now! We decided it was  time to get out of the heat, and for a change of scenery.    So, we booked a King corner suite at the Marriott Residence Inn in Flagstaff, AZ. We spent the big bucks because we didn't know if we'd end up spending all our time in the room, and wanted it to feel more like an apartment, instead of just a room with a bed.

So here it is.....

It was a very nice room! We also got the corner suite, so we'd have another large window. We spent 4 nights here, arriving on Monday, and leaving Friday. With the Marriot app, I was able to check-in, get a digital key sent to my phone, and never went to the front desk. We opted out of daily housekeeping, so there would be no one in our room. I went through the room and wiped everything!  The hotel was right downtown, so we were able to walk everywhere. We did end up eating out everyday. Most of the time with outdoor seating. We adjusted to the new normal. We had wipes and sanitizer with us and wiped the glasses, silverware, and plate edges. Arizona has finally mandated masks, and we felt more comfortable with everyone wearing them. So, we had a very nice time, spent a lot of it in our room, and made it back to Vegas. Now in about a week, we'll know how safe we actually were. Keep your fingers crossed!

walking pics

Good evening.
Here's a few pics I took on my morning walk around our community.....
This is the first fairway of the golf course that runs through our community. Below is the sidewalk along that fairway and Aliante Blvd.

This is the 1st fairway again, but at the green and along Broadwing. One of the main roads through our community.
And over on Elkhorn, on the south side of our community, sits the large parking ramp for our Aliante Casino. We still haven't been to a casino since they reopened.

Beginning week post.

Good morning.
Another hot week ahead of us....but we do live in a desert!     :-)
Here's a few of the rocks I've seen on my morning walks....

And this next one is obviously by a different painter.....

And my latest puzzle.......
Had ribs for the 4th, with Craig's tasty potato salad.
Even with the heat, we've been sitting on the back patio in the afternoon with our mister fan. Makes it very comfortable.
Picking up mail from 2 neighbors right now, and the newspaper from one. They just left last week, and will be gone until the end of September. So a free 3 month newspaper for me! They have a huge 5th wheel and will spend most of the time up in Bend Oregon.
And as long as our air conditioning keeps working, we're content to just stay home.
