hosta

As you know, I have a large yard, and with it are 100's of plants. Including nearly 50 varieties of hosta. Here's just a few....

Plain solid green hosta around the end of the deck. This variety can take sun and the deck gets a few hours of sun.
A large hosta with pale yellow/green leaves with a slightly darker green edge. Called Rascal.

3 more hosta I have no idea what their names are.

And hostas around my 2 backyard trees. There's 3 varieties around the big tree, and a miniature variety around a sycamore called Golden Tiara.
I like how the hostas give the trees more of a focal point in the yard instead of grass going right up to the trunk.
And soon, more yard pics. I bet you can't wait!

  1. I love how the hostas look around the trees. Do you think they'd be ok under a fir tree? I may try this at home!

I live in sugar sand which doesn't grow much of anything and 15 trees in the front yard which means not much sun. I have tried hostas, but they do better in a tub. My ground cover is airplane plants (spider plants) in the solid green. They freeze back in the winter, but come back in the spring. They multiply and look wonderful. We also gave up on grass, but we put down mulch (which we get free from out electric company) all over the front.. why use the water that goes to China when mulch looks great. All my plants go in containers that we have drug out of the dump... good repurpose. My friend who is a professional landscaper say we have broken every rule of landscaping, but it is fun!

Hi. Love the large tree. Could you tell me what 3 varieties did you use and how many did you plant to start to get it to look like this? Thank you so much! :)

Do you add potting soil around the tree then plant the hostas
