funny friday

I'm all set for the big sale!
I've got all the plants organized into rows of sun, part sun, and shade. All labeled and priced. A total of 370 plants this year. Pics will follow in the next post.
But now our ff........

AMAZING SIMPLE HOME REMEDIES

1. IF YOU'RE CHOKING ON AN ICE CUBE, SIMPLY POUR A CUP OF BOILING WATER DOWN YOUR THROAT. PRESTO! THE BLOCKAGE WILL INSTANTLY REMOVE ITSELF.

2. AVOID CUTTING YOURSELF WHEN SLICING VEGETABLES BY GETTING SOMEONE ELSE TO HOLD THE VEGETABLES WHILE YOU CHOP.

3. AVOID ARGUMENTS WITH THE FEMALES ABOUT LIFTING THE TOILET SEAT BY USING THE SINK.

4. FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE SUFFERERS ~ SIMPLY CUT YOURSELF AND BLEED FOR A FEW MINUTES, THUS REDUCING THE PRESSURE ON YOUR VEINS. REMEMBER TO USE A TIMER.

5. A MOUSE TRAP PLACED ON TOP OF YOUR ALARM CLOCK WILL PREVENT YOU FROM ROLLING OVER AND GOING BACK TO SLEEP AFTER YOU HIT THE SNOOZE BUTTON.

8. REMEMBER - EVERYONE SEEMS NORMAL UNTIL YOU GET TO KNOW THEM.

DAILY THOUGHT:
SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE SLINKIES - NOT REALLY GOOD FOR ANYTHING BUT THEY BRING A SMILE TO YOUR FACE WHEN PUSHED DOWN THE STAIRS

Wednesday update

For my Wednesday update, some more flowers blooming in the yard. But first, I awoke to frost!
That's right! We are under a frost advisory. So yesterday, I was out covering everything up! Will the warm weather ever come and stay? We've had a colder than normal May, April, March, and February. And they talk about global warming? Where? As I write this it is currently 32 degrees out. The perennials should be okay, I'll know after it warms up. But here's some more pics.
2 deciduous Azaleas

A yellow Lupine, and a yellow Tree Peony.
And a Purple Columbine.
And a total 377 plants for my sale! Now I need to write 377 labels and price tags for them!

the holiday weekend

So far, our weekend has been busy. Saturday, I edged the driveway and sealed the cracks.
Dug up a few more surprises for the plant sale, and did some more weeding. Sunday, was sealing the driveway. We usually get by with 2-5 gal buckets of sealer, but this year I came up 6 ft short of being done. So it was back to Menard's for 1 more bucket to finish the job. The gardens are filling in nicely so far, despite our cooler than normal spring. Should look pretty good for the sale next Sunday. Craig made his delicious Potato Salad to go with our Grilled Chicken for dinner. Yummy!
And here's a couple of pics of 2 of my Tree Peonies. The first one is called Peppermint Candy, and I have no idea what the second one is, but they are beautiful!

So now it's back out in the yard! More weeding to do!

funny friday

Work has been nuts this week. They're re paving the entire parking lot! Front and back! So we're on the phone every day, telling customers where to park when they come in. Looks like another week to go. but it will be real nice when it's over. The lot was a mess! Although we don't look forward to the special assessment we'll get when it's done. ouch!
But anywho, here's this weeks ff.....
.
.
.
WE ARE IN TROUBLE!
The population of this country is 300 million.
160 million are retired.
That leaves 140 million to do the work.

There are 85 million in school.
Which leaves 55 million to do the work.

Of this there are 35 million employed by the federal government.
Leaving 15 million to do the work.

2.8 million are in the armed forces.
Which leaves 12.2 million to do the work.

Take from that total the 10.8 million people who work for state and city Governments, And that leaves 1.4 million to do the work.

At any given time there are 188,000 people in hospitals.
Leaving 1,212,000 to do the work.

Now, there are 1,211,998 people in prisons.

That leaves just two people to do the work.

You and me.

And there you are,

Sitting on your ass,

At your computer, reading jokes.

Nice. Real nice.

Have a great weekend!

pretty flowers

Been very busy in the yard.
Edged the driveway, to get it ready
to seal this weekend.
We do it on the Memorial Day weekend,
because there is very little traffic
on our otherwise very busy road.
We also use this long holiday weekend,
to finish any major yard work,
for starting in June,
we'll be gone just about every
other weekend this summer.
But things are shaping up nicely.
I seem to have lost a purple Lupine,
and also an Azalea.
I'm surprised about the Azalea,
since I've had it for several years now.
But that's gardening,
you never know from year
to year, what will come back.
And of course a few pics of some
more things blooming right now.
First is I believe a type of
Ranunculus, with tiny yellow flowers
in front of some early Iris.
Next is a ground cover,
called Sweet Woodruff.
One of my favorite ground covers!
Next is Creeping Thyme,
with itsy bitsy teeny pale purple flowers.
And it's growing next to Mother of Thyme,
which will bloom a little later.
And the orange flower is a Geum.
And last is a dwarf Cranesbill.
Only about 4 inches tall,
but very heavy bloomer.
great for a borders edge.

My Tree Peonies are starting to bloom,
so pics will follow soon!

brrrrrrrr

It's been a very cold spring here in
Mid Michigan. It is currently 36 out
this morning.
I have been furiously working in the yard.
(I haven't even had time to read my favorite blogs!)
Now, with 360 plants potted up,
(can you believe it?)
it's now time to clean the yard up.
I'm sure some of the plant shoppers
will want to see the yard,
so I need to get it looking as good
as I can.
Cleaned up the paved paths yesterday,
burned a big pile of branches,
did some weeding, and sprayed
the gravel paths for weeds.
Today we're buying plants for the pots.
Hopefully we're done with frost.
Then it'll be weeding,
weeding, and more weeding!
And here's a few pics of
things blooming in the
yard right now.
Top pic is creeping phlox
along the pond path.
Then some pretty purple tulips.
A Burgundy leafed Cranesbill,
with light purple flowers,

and an Azalea by the deck.
Work has been very, very, busy.
And this week will be the same.
But it'll be a short week,
as we'll be closed for the
holiday weekend. Yaaa!

funny friday

A woman was having a daytime affair while her husband was at work.
One rainy day she was in bed with her boyfriend when, to her horror, she heard her husband's car pull into the driveway.
"Hurry! Grab your clothes and jump out the window. My husband's home early!"
"I can't jump out the window! It's raining out there!"
"If my husband catches us in here, he'll kill us both!" she replied. "
So the boyfriend scoots out of bed, grabs his clothes and jumps out the window!
As he ran down the street in the pouring rain, he quickly discovered he had run right into the middle of the town's annual marathon, so he started running along beside the others... about 300 of them.
Being naked, with his clothes tucked under his arm, he tried to blend in as best he could. After a little while a small group of runners who had been watching him with some curiosity, jogged closer.
"Do you always run in the nude?" one asked.
"Oh yes!" he replied, gasping in air. "It feels so wonderfully free!"
Another runner moved a long side.
"Do you always run carrying your clothes with you under your arm?"
"Oh , yes" our friend answered breathlessly.
"That way I can get dressed right at the end of the run and get in my car to go home!"
Then a third runner cast his eyes a little lower and queried,
"Do you always wear a condom when you run?"
"Nope.........just when it's raining."

Have a great weekend!

Mounds State Park

On this trip we stayed at Mounds State Park.
Going thru my pics,
I realized I forgot to take a pic of the campground.
Oh well, It was quite nice. We had a pull through
site. The campground was fairly busy.
I'd say just about half full. It will be
interesting when we go to some of last years
campgrounds to see if high gas prices
are keeping people home.

But anyway,
here's a pic of Craig in front of
the 'Great Mound'. this is the largest
of the 10 Mounds in the park.
They were 'built' about 160 BC.
Basically, they excavated a ditch
around a central area,
and piled the dirt up on the outer rim
creating a semi private central platform
that they're not sure what they used for.
Craig and I were not impressed.

Now it rained for almost the entire 2nd day,
and I mean rain! Are outdoor carpet
was covered with standing water at one point.
And the campground developed a number of small 'lakes'.
So we didn't get to the Zoo,
but managed to see some of the park
in between showers.

The park sits along the White River,
so lots of wild life, and plants.
Look closely, and you'll
see a Great Blue Heron
in one of the pics!
And many wild flowers.

Hope you enjoyed the pics.
I'm done with dividing plants for my sale. Now it's hoping they all 'take'. I have 340 plants potted up. Never thought I'd do that many, but I kept finding more plants I needed to divide. I still have more, but they are now getting to big, and they would suffer a lot of leaf damage trying, but I think I have a real good variety. And last year I had only 230 plants, so I'm hopping for a good sale this year.

our 3rd trip

Yep! just got back from our
3rd mo-ho trip of the season. (and no wi-fi)
So far, mother nature has not
been very nice.(unlike last year)
But when you travel,
you make the best of it.
And we did.
This trip was to Mounds State Park.
About 40 miles north of Indianapolis, IN.

And of course, being that close,

we drove into the city one day.
Indy is very large! much bigger
than I thought it would be.
And it has a very vibrant downtown.
And at the center is the very recognizable
State Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument.
And Indy is also the State Capitol of Indiana.
Click the pic to see Craig.

And they have a downtown mall

called the City Center mall.
About 3 blocks south of the Monument.
With this massive glass domed room
covering an entire intersection.
Linking the mall with hotels and
parking garages.
And of course it helps that the
Conseco Fieldhouse,(their basket ball arena)
the brand new Lucas Oil Field, (football) their new baseball stadium, and the convention center, are all within a short walk.
Also nearby is the Indianapolis Zoo, which we wanted to see, but the parking was so bad,(it was a Saturday afternoon) we decided to come back Sunday morning for that.
So we went up town to the Broad Ripple Neighborhood, and had a nice late lunch at one of the many outdoor cafes in the area.
It was a fun day. I'll tell you more about our trip in another post. Right now, it's outside to work in the yard!

funny friday

Just a quickie ff this week. Work has been very busy. (which is good!) And I've been out in the yard every morning before work. So much to do!

Plant sale count....316 plants potted up! Grass is coming in nicely where I removed those 3 beds. Will have before and after pics in a week or so.

And now our funny Friday......

A dog is truly man's best friend.

If you don't believe it, just try this experiment.
Put your dog and your wife in the trunk of the car for an hour.
When you open the trunk, see who is really happy to see you!

Have a great weekend!

another trip

We've just returned from a little
trip with the big guy.
(what we call our motor home)
Took a quickie weekend to
Muskegon to see my Mom.
Stayed at Muskegon State Park.
Could't post, as no wi-fi in the park.
Here's an early morning shot from our campsite.
We were right on Muskegon Lake,
near the channel.
A very nice pull thru site.
Took Mom out for lunch at Finley's.
Mom and I had their ribs,(the best!)
and Craig had a Ruben sandwich.
Then to the club.(that's what we call the VFW)
We all had a nice visit.
After we got home yesterday,
it was back out in the yard,
digging and dividing.

I have over 275 plants for the plant sale.
And still have a few more things i want to divide.
Here's a few pics of what's blooming
in the yard right now.
First is a rock garden that is
in the front yard at the corner
of the driveway and sidewalk.
It is full of Hens and Chicks
in the summer, but in the spring,
it's loaded with Grape Hyacinths.
Next is a Japanese Quince,
with loads of orangey-pink flowers.
And 3rd, is a large hellebore,
I don't find the flowers so nice,
as I do the leaves that will follow.
And last is a big old Crab Apple tree
next to the house.
It's so old, it only blooms good
every other year.
Today it's cleaning up the
motor home for our next trip,
and more digging and dividing.
I'll keep you updated!

funny friday

It got down to 27, but my plants survived!
On my way home from work Wednesday, I noticed all the Magnolia trees were brown. But on arriving home, everything looked fine. All the other flowering trees and bushes were fine. The Ferns and Hostas were fine. It's funny how some flowers can take the cold and others can't.
And as of this morning, I have 265 plants potted up for my sale. And I still have more Hostas to go!
But on with this weeks ff.........
A little poem.

SUSIE LEE DONE FELL IN LOVE,
SHE PLANNED TO MARRY JOE,
SHE WAS SO HAPPY 'BOUT IT ALL ,
SHE TOLD HER PAPPY SO.

PAPPY TOLD HER, "SUSIE GAL,
YOU'LL HAVE TO FIND ANOTHER,
I'D JUST AS SOON YO' MA DON'T KNOW,
BUT JOE IS YO' HALF BROTHER".

SO SUSIE PUT ASIDE HER JOE,
AND PLANNED TO MARRY WILL,
BUT AFTER TELLING PAPPY THIS,
HE SAID, "THERE'S TROUBLE STILL".

"YOU CAN'T MARRY WILL, MY GAL,
AND PLEASE DON'T TELL YOU' MOTHER,
BUT WILL AND JOE, AND SEVERAL MO'
I KNOW IS YO' HALF BROTHER".

BUT MAMA KNEW,
AND SAID, MY CHILD,
"JUST DO WHAT MAKES YO' HAPPY.
MARRY WILL OR MARRY JOE.
YOU AIN'T NO KIN TO PAPPY".

Have a great weekend!
