On the shores of Erie

We've just returned from a trip to East Harbor State Park!
On the banks of Lake Erie, between port Clinton and Sandusky.
About a 3 1/2 hr drive from Lansing.
Left Saturday after work,
and returned Tuesday afternoon.
East harbor is an enormous park!
Ohio's largest State Park!
565 campsites!

We snatched an end site with lots of space!
See Craig by the campfire?
East Harbor sits on a peninsula
between 2 bays and Lake Erie.
So lots of water and wild life.
Saw many Deer and Rabbits.

On the walk to the beach,
(camp host said about a half mile walk,
which was more like 3 miles!)
we walked past huge masses of water lilies in bloom.
A beautiful sight!
The beach was not as impressive.
Lot's of rocks and not very picturesque.

On a day trip, we went to the African Safari.
We were expecting this to be quite lame,
but were pleasantly surprised.
They had lots of animals!
It's a drive thru park.
You stay in your car,
and feed the animals from your window.

For some cute pics of the animals getting up close and too personal,
Check out the rest of the pics here,
African Safari.

This beast didn't just want a taste,
he wanted the whole cup!
I had to fight to keep him from
getting it!
After the Safari, we headed to
Miller Ferry to catch a ride to
Put-In-Bay.
We were told it's a "must see" place.
Well, it's got a lot of golf carts,
and there's no golf courses here.

But it does have a lot of bars,
hotels, marinas, restaurants,
shops, and did I say BARS?
I guess the golf carts make
a safer mode to travel drunk!

There is other things to see on the island.
One is Perry's Victory and International Peace Monument.
An impressive tower that dominates the island.

Had a great time and great weather!
Our camping neighbors went fishing,
and shared some of their Walleye with us,( I mean me, Craig won't eat fish) Yum!
