daylillies

Spent my last day off mowing the yard and doing some yard work,(where do all the weeds come from?) while Craig did paperwork, laundry, and made a delicious Swiss Steak dinner. We also have had deer in the yard. Spotted one nibbling on some Daylillies and discovered while we were gone, they've eaten a number of things. So tried to figure out how they're getting in and put up more high fencing. We'll see if that does the trick. And here's a few Daylillies that are blooming now that the deer didn't get.

Ain't they pretty? more pics to come!

  2. The yellow/orangish ones are common along our highways. (My mom used to call them "highway lilies".) A beautiful blast of summer color.

  3. the day lilies are phenomenal in Chicago this year. it's a bumper crop like we've haven't seen in a long time. they are so beautiful. mine are planted around the Buddha and his lantern, and they are so bountiful you almost can't see him.

even the tiger lilies in the backyard are plentiful. i hope the surprise lilies will be just as great at the end of the month. the leaves are just starting to die off.

  5. Oh, I love your daylilies.
I wish I could spend an afternoon just dead-heading your lovely daylilies (that's therapy for me!) - is that lemon balm in the last picture? LOVE the smell of fresh lemon balm, but oh, it will take over, won't it?!?

  6. Hey! I think I have the ones in your second picture! (can you tell I have no yard savvy at all?) But if they are the same, I've seen what mine will look like in a couple of years and they are going to be these huge bushes with tons of flowers. The problem with that? Well, they line the sidewalk leading to my front door. (They were here when we moved in) Gawd I hate yard work

  7. We lose to the deer too. Even with dogs, the deer still come around the moment the dogs are out of the yard for a run.
