Good morning.
Wow! I can't believe it's been nearly a week since my last post. That's probably because I haven't had much to post about. :-)
Our temps are getting back near normal for this time of year. 106-107. We're even back to enjoying our patio late morning/early afternoon. 90-95 is pretty nice when you have humidity around 1%. And even when we're inside, I can open up the shades and let the sun shine in. The morning temps have been great! 77-82. Very nice weather for my morning walks. And since it's been too hot to walk in the afternoon, we've been going to the fitness center nearly every day.
We took the car in for an oil change since we'll be putting over 4000 miles on it before our return. And Craig's been working on lists of things to do before we go and what we need to take. Also my IHG credit card has come in handy as we were able to use points to reduce the cost of 4 hotel nights. Yes, we have all of our hotels pre booked. Craig's funny that way. Our entire trip is 'scheduled'. He has an itinerary for every day where we have to be. All 19 days and 12 hotels. :-)
Well, I guess that's if for right now.

plant pics
Good morning.
Here's a few pics from my walk this morning.....
Above, a Crepe myrtle, and below I believe is a Desert Spoon Yucca sending up flower stalks
This odd flower stalk between the palms was coming up from a small Agave. The stalk must be 20 feet tall!
Another Crepe Myrtle.
The Desert Spoon Yucca in full bloom. And attracting a lot of bees!
Not sure the name of this flowering shrub, but they are all over the community.
And a white Crepe Myrtle.
It's been very pleasant walking in the morning. Temps in the 80's. With the temps over 110 every day this week, you pretty much stay inside in the afternoon.
That's pretty much it for now.

I'm a winner!
Good afternoon.
As I write this it's a balmy 114 outside.
I did walk this morning at a very comfortable 82 and 3% humidity. As I've said many times, low humidity makes all the difference.
Wed. we did our weekly senior free slot tournament. We go to a Station Casino, this time it was Fiesta over on Rancho Dr. The base limit was 60,000 and I made it to 73, 348! So they added me to the sheet, and I had top go back after 8pm or today to see if I qualified for a payout. Since I didn't get much past 60,000 I didn't think I might get anything. They take the top 100 scores that day and award prizes from $1000 down to $10. We went in this morning after Craig's PT to check and I won $25! Cool! And the best part....It doesn't cost anything to play! Craig won here a few weeks ago. So maybe the Fiesta is our new Station Casino favorite! So, we decided to treat ourselves to lunch at the 3100 grill. That's our golf course diner. We thought with the heat, the golf course would be dead and so would the diner. We were right. We were the only people there and got very good service from the waitress whom we've seen before. Had our usual Avocado BLT with onion rings and the chicken fingers with fries. We split the sandwich, got a to go box for the chicken and devoured the onion rings and fries. They have really good onion rings and fries!!!! We'll have the chicken for dinner. We use to be able to each eat a sandwich. But a whole sandwich makes us stuffed! It's odd that we can't eat like we use to. I'm assuming age has something to do with it.
We have been working out at the fitness center every day this week but today. We'll go back tomorrow.
I had to increase the watering time for my drip irrigation as the extreme heat was causing some plants to wilt badly. They have looked good since then.
And I think that's it for now....

it's a bit hot out.
Good afternoon.
I'm sitting comfortably inside while the outside temp reached 113 today. A bit too warm to stay outside for too long. I did get in my morning walk in when it was a very comfortable 85. Later, after Craig's PT appointment, we went to the community center and worked out in the fitness area for about a half hour. We both did the elliptical. Their machines are nice as they have a programmable screen. You can punch in different courses and even watch yourself going on these trails. Pretty cool. Or you can watch TV.
Our road trip is now finalized and we'll be on the road for 19 days total. That's a lot sleeping in hotel rooms, but Craig likes his road trips. and it's actually only 12 different hotels once you account for the several night stays in some of them.
And while waiting for Craig's PT session one day this week, I took a walk around the parking lot and spotted this vanity plate.....
It would be interesting to see the person who actually has this car. I also saw betaboo, and ncekity.
Well, a short post today as we haven't done much. But retirement is good. :-)

busy busy
Good morning.
Weather has been very nice. 80's to low 90's. Sat on the patio yesterday afternoon and it was 91 and very comfortable. Low humidity makes all the difference. But it looks like we'll be getting an early heatwave as temps are expected in the triple digits by the weekend.
I decided to take out our Baja Fairy Duster shrub and replaced it with a Crape Myrtle. The fairy Duster just wasn't doing well. I read all about it but I still couldn't get it to thrive. So I'll try the Crape Myrtle. At least I've seen a number of them in the community and I think it'll fill the corner better.
It's a busy week with appointments nearly every day. Craig's PT on Monday and Thursday. My doctor today, and Craig has an appointment for a follow up with the hand surgeon on Friday. His finger is coming along. Not fast enough for Craig. His finger is still swollen and very hard on the one side. It's 9 weeks today since the surgery, and he expects it to be all normal by now. His PT told him the swelling is normal and he can expect various degrees of swelling for about 6 months. There was a lot of cutting inside the finger that needs to heal, and all the exercising, which is important to do, is also hampering the healing. So he just needs to be patient. Just because the outside is looking good, doesn't mean the inside is.
On Sunday, we went to the Aliante Buffet with 2 other couples. Haven't been to one in a while. Of course, Sunday is champagne brunch day, and we all had a few glasses. With a coupon, it cost us each $6. Crazy cheap for all that food and Champagne. And the buffet was as busy as I've ever seen it.
Well, we've finalized our trip dates back to Michigan. If anyone wants to know the exact dates, please e-mail me. Craig won't let me post when we're going to be gone. He's a little anal that way. :-)
