busy...busy....busy

Yep, another busy weekend!
We had the best weather! So got lots of things done. Waxed the last side of the motor home, cleaned the inside, and stocked it with supplies for the next trip. Weeded and deadheaded some of the flowerbeds, Sprayed the lawn for weeds, and sprayed the paths too.
Not much luck with catching any more rabbits, but did catch this little fella.

And he was not a happy camper! This is a fairly young possum. You can tell his size in relation to the apple in the trap. Opened up the doors, and he just sat there. So I left him and checked later, he was gone. Caught him in the trap the very next day also! Stupid animals!
This morning we went for a walk in Delta townships newest park.

Hawk Meadow Park. It has over 5 miles of trails. We walked the 2 mile one for starters. A real nice park!
Very wooded with a pond in the back. Here's Craig on the floating path.
They float the path on barrels. I don't know why they didn't just put in permanent posts.
But was a nice walk. We'll go back to do other trails.
We're off friday for Indiana Dunes State Park for the holiday weekend. Won't have wi-fi,
so will not be able to post till we're back.

I said....enough already!

We have had a week of non stop rain! As of today, we have had just shy of 5 inches since last Saturday!! We lost power last night during the most recent storm. Was out over 8 hours! Went out at about 7:15pm. Around 7:30 we decided it wasn't coming back on, so we gathered up some snacks and beverages, and went out to the motor home. Started up the generator, turned on the air and TV, and enjoyed the rest of the evening in there.

We've had almost the normal amount of rain for July and August in just one week!
Thankfully, we don't have a basement, so we don't have to worry about flooding.
But I'm not getting any yard work done either!
We did manage to mow the yard today before we got the next deluge. Another 3/4 of an inch.
And a tornado hit just south west of here.
Now back to the yard.
I wanted to take a pic of this flower before the Japanese beetles ruined it.

This is called Copper King. It's a perennial Hibiscus. The flowers are almost 12 inches across! The leaves are a reddish green. And it's one of the few hardy Hibiscus that are multi-colored.

But this is what happens to them.....

the damn Japanese Beatles.

They shred them like lace.

See the little bugger in the middle?

But that's living with nature I guess.

Thanks to all the rain,
we have spores growing in the yard.
I found a mushroom in my shade garden.
It is huge!
I've never seen one this big!
It's the size of my hand!
Anyone want to buy it?
Any way, it's been very busy at work,
which is why I haven't posted.
very busy.....very busy......

enough all ready

Okay! enough all ready!
After a summer of very dry weather,
we get rain, a lot of rain.
since Saturday, we have had almost 3 in.!
We needed the rain, but a little late for the crops.
And at least we weren't on a weekend mo-ho trip!
But I didn't get any thing done in the yard either.
But I did get caught up on all my blogs!

On a good note.
I caught another Rabbit!
I learned to set the traps in the morning.
So the Raccoons don't get them.
Wayne 2, rabbits 1.

And we got the truck and motor home
fixed with out any fires!

Also, my eye is all better.

Thanks for all the comments!

recall, recall

Wednesday I received a recall letter for my 2001 Ford Ranger pickup.
I thought it was strange to receive a recall with my truck being
6 years old, but upon reading it I soon found out why. Apparently there could be a
problem with the cruise control.

But even scarier was this
paragraph I circled.
"Until you have the recall service performed,
do not park your vehicle
near any structures or building."
Apparently this thing could leak
and cause an under hood fire!
Then Craig mentioned that our
2002 motor home is on a ford chassis,
and could even be a 2001 chassis.
So I called the Customer assistance Center,
Gave them my Vin # and sure enough!
it's been recalled too!
So, since we've worked all week,
We are taking them in first thing Monday morning. Providing they don't burn up before then!

On a happier note.

I CAUGHT A RABBIT!

If you remember from
this post, A rabbit got in a had babies.
Well, with so much to eat,
it's very difficult to catch them in traps.
Some one said they had luck with apples,
so I set out 3 traps.
A raccoon knocked over 2
getting the apples,
but I got one in the 3rd!
He's still quite small, and will be deported
from the yard.
And I keep tring to get the rest.

Oh, and my eye is all better too!

back home again

Hello all, we are back from an extended weekend
in Traverse City. Had to wait to post,
no wi-fi at the campground.
There we stayed at Traverse City State Park
For those not familiar with Michigan,
Traverse City is about 3 1/2 hours north of Lansing.

See the green arrows on the map.
We left Saturday after work,
and arrived around 6.
Had reserved us a nice spacious site,
right near the entrance.
The campground was packed!
Not an empty site!

But Traverse City is a popular summer destination.
And this park is called an urban campground,
because it's right in the city.
Only 2 miles from downtown.
And the main road into the city divides
the campground from the beach.
You use a skywalk to get to the beach
because of all the traffic.

One day, we went to Leelanua State Park.
See the orange arrow on the map.
It's at the tip of Leelanau Penninsula.
Didn't camp there because the campground
is a rustic one. That means no electric.
And the other tenters frown if you run your generator.
And I didn't buy a motor home to "ruff it'

But we came up here in search of the ellusive Petoskey Stone!
What is that you say? Michigan was a shallow sea, millions of years ago. A lot warmer than it is now, and had coral reefs.
The Petoskey Stone is remnants of that reef. Click the link for more info.

Here's Craig on the shoreline of beautiful
Lake Michigan .
It's kinda like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Look at all those rocks!
And all the people we saw,
had not found any.
But it was a beautiful day,

and so we searched and searched.
And then, after about an hour,
were we rewarded!
Right on the edge of the water,
I spotted it!
One the size of my palm!
Here's Craig with it.
Usually they are quite small,
Being a soft rock,
they wear down easily.
And they are hard to find,
because until they are polished,
They don't look a lot
different than other rocks.

Here's a closer picture of our find.

Here's me back at our
campsite, sanding it down.
It's a 3 step process.
Coarse sanding to remove rough areas,
fine sanding to smooth the surface,
and then polishing to add a shiny finish!
Isn't it a beauty!
Craig also found a smaller one,
So the day was good!
The one in my hand,
sells at the local stores
for about $30.00!
Click on the pic to see the intricate details!

We also toured some of the small towns in the area,
and the last day, wandered along the beach
at the campground.
Had the best weather, good food, and a safe trip home.
But now back to reality.
Have a 12 hour work day tomorrow.
As they say, you play, you pay!

funny friday

For this edition of funny friday, I'm posting something of interest.

For those of you who don't know why the wedding ring is on the fourth finger, read on .......

Why should the wedding ring be worn on the fourth finger?
There is a beautiful and convincing explanation given by the Chinese.....
Thumb represents your Parents.
Second (Index) finger represents your Siblings.
Middle finger represents your-Self.
Fourth (Ring) finger represents your Life Partner.
& the Last (Little) finger represents your children .

Firstly, open your palms (face to face), bend the middle fingers and hold them together - back to back . Secondly, open and hold the remaining three fingers and the thumb - tip to tip (As shown in the figure below):

Now, try to separate your thumbs (representing the parents)..., they will open, because your parents are not destined to live with you lifelong, and have to leave you sooner or later.
Please join your thumbs as before and separate your Index fingers (representing siblings)...., they will also open, because your brothers and sisters will have their own families, and will have to lead their own separate lives. Now join the Index fingers and separate your Little fingers (representing your children)...., they will open too, because the children also will get married and settle down on their own some day. Finally, join your Little fingers, and try to separate your Ring fingers (representing your spouse). You will be surprised to see that you just CANNOT....., because Husband & Wife have to remain together all their lives - through thick and thin!!

Now is that just too cool or what?
Also, it's been a very busy week in the Salon. After work today, I have to mow the yard, and pack the motor home. Tomorrow after work, we head out for another mo-ho weekend!
Will probably not have wi-fi, so may not post till we get back.
Everyone have a great weekend!

That was stupid!

I tell ya, I'm dangerous! But only to myself!
More on that in a minute.
Sunday, I went to Muskegon to see my Mom. Her birthday is this month. She always has a little list of things she wants me to do. She lost her internet, some file got corrupted, so I reinstalled the software for that, cut her hair, then took her out to Red Lobster, for lunch. Yummy as always! Of course I had the Salmon New Orleans, and Mom had the Blackened Catfish and a Strip Sirloin Steak. Then it was over to the VFW, for cocktails and pull tabs. It was a nice day.

Monday, I stocked the motor home for our next trip, and got the car caddy hooked up to save us time on Saturday, as we are leaving right after work.

Also I decide to try and get rid of the rabbits in the yard.
First some history.
Our back yard is surrounded with evergreens.
And woven thru those is a 3 ft. high fence of chicken wire.
This is to keep the rabbits out, mainly in the winter,
because they'll eat bushes down to the ground.
We got a rabbit in the yard this spring. I got it out and patched the hole, but apparently she had a litter, during the time she was in the yard. Now there are little rabbits all over. And of course with the chicken wire, they can't get out. Not that they would, my yard is a gourmet smorgasbord!

So I decide I would chase them out. I'd put chicken wire up around a section at a time and corral them. Then open a section of perimeter fence, and flush them out of the yard.
Sounds easy, right? ya, uh huh.
Well, I used a couple of
canes to beat the bushes and plants
to scare the little bugger the direction
I wanted him to go.
But they're still quite small and
very fast!
He would not go out the opening.
And while I was poking the bushes,
One of the canes got stuck,
and I pulled, and WHAM!
Right into my eye!
Thought I poked it right out!
But after a minute,
I realized I could still see.
Whew!
It hurt, but I could see.
I'd be fine.
Later that evening
I realized my eye was red,
This morning, it looks worse.
So maybe a trip to the Doctor is in order.
I swear, every time I go out
in the yard, I injury myself somewhere!

And no, I didn't get the f#%*ing Rabbit!

An Update!
Saw the Doc, he said it was a hemotoma. Which basically is broken blood vessels. I should heal fine in a week or so. He gave me a prescription for an antibiotic in case there was a surface scratch and possible infection.
