Good morning.
I know, an unusual Thursday post, but I don't have to be at work until 9am today.
As much as I was thrilled about the bridge being open, apparently they still have another month of work on it so only 1 lane in each direction is open. That wouldn't be so bad except, they have decided to keep the entire street one lane for a mile leading to the bridge. I suppose it's to keep people from driving to fast and trying to get ahead of each other before the 1 lane bridge, but what it's done is you get some slow ass who appears afraid of the orange barrels and drives way to slow. It's worst than the long way to work. So now with most of the traffic back on that road, I may just take the long way. With out as much traffic, it may be quicker. God I hate all the road work! It's just sooo inconvenient!
In other news....
They're doing painting on our mall. I got to work yesterday, and they had painted all the back doors green, instead of the store bought gray. Not sure I care for that, but it's not my call. And it's been very busy at the Salon. That is mostly good except for longer hours and me more
tired at night. ;-)
And because it's been so busy, I haven't had time to go to the Salon supply store, so I ordered on-line Tuesday morning for delivery on Wednesday. I get to work and there's a message on my phone that they were out of a couple of things and to call them and see if I want to substitute. They would hold the order until they heard from me. Ugh! I wanted the stuff Wednesday! So I called and took care of the issues and now will get my supplies today. Why do they say same day shipping on their website when they should say same day shipping only if the planets are in alignment and we feel like it.
Okay, I need to go and get ready for work.

just a quick rant

Good morning.
Just a quick bridge update. The closed bridge that makes me travel several miles out of my way to work is still closed. it was suppose to open on Aug. 6. Yesterday I found out that the concrete mix that was delivered for the bridge wasn't the right one and it'll take 2 weeks for another one to arrive.
First off, I didn't know there were different ways to mix concrete. Second, why is it going to take 2 weeks?
In other news, They have huge sections of our parking lot at work marked off. They are cutting out bad sections and repaving. Now this parking lot is only 2 years old. Don't you think it should have lasted longer than that? All I can figure is when the landlord had the new parking lot done, that was his expense and got the cheapest job possible. And the patching is considered maintenance which all the tenants have to pay for. But that doesn't make much sense either, since over half the mall is empty, and he'd have to pay that share of the work himself.
Anyway, I worked 10 1/2 hours yesterday, and it looks to be about 10 today.
Now you know why I don't often post much during the week.
So this is it for now, and I'm off to work!

winter

Good morning. It's currently 18 out going for a high of 21. The storm that blew through yesterday and last night left us with about 4 inches of snow. But as usual the radio made it sound like it was going to be worse, so we had numerous cancellations. I lost half my customers yesterday. And since my last one didn't cancel until an hour before her appointment, it's a good thing I took my laptop to work. One of the other stylist and I played a new game I downloaded, the Mirror Mysteries. It's a hidden object game with a story. Entertaining and passes the time. The upside to all those cancellations? I got to go home early. And traffic was crawling. You'd think people in Michigan would know how to drive in the snow. But why would I think that? It seems most people don't know how to drive period! And as we were out of town part of the weekend, we didn't get enough food made for leftovers, so Lean Cuisine to the rescue. They have some tasty little meals. Of course I have to eat 2 since they are so small. ;-)
And as soon as I get done with this post, I need to bundle up and get the driveway cleared before I head to work this morning. And of course, I'll need to get there early to damp mop the floors. And I'll be working late today as people who canceled yesterday, will be calling when they realize we're not buried in snow. Don't you just love winter. But that's how it goes.

2010

Good morning. It's hard to believe it's now 2010. It seems like yesterday we were worried about turning 2000. My customers keep telling me it's because I'm older that time goes by so fast. I think their right.
And I didn't make it to midnight again. I was in bed by 11pm. Haven't seen midnight in years. But reflecting on another year gone by, although business has been down, we were still able to pay all our bills, take 12 mo-ho weekend trips, and spend big bucks on new mo-ho tires, a new furnace and water heater for the house, a new roof top heating/air conditioning unit for work, and still have some left over for savings. We have our health, and no outstanding debts. So despite Michigan being the hardest hit during this economic mess, we're doing okay. And I'm cautiously optimistic for the new year, at least for us individually. I'm not so sure about the country.

funny friday and a rant

Well, it's been busy at work this week. It should get steadily busier as we go through the holiday season. Glad I don't work at a store. They've been playing Christmas music for 2 weeks already. And for me, a little Christmas music goes a long way. And now another reason I hate shopping at Walmart. Actually I do occasionally shop there. They do sometimes have better prices on some things, but, this is an example of their advertising tactics. Their Wednesday flier in the paper showed frozen turkeys for $.40 per lb. The cheapest in the area. Meijer's was around $.45, and Kroger, $.49. We usually but 3-4 turkeys. 1, I love turkey. 2, They are by far the cheapest meat you can buy, especial right now. And 3, I love the smell of it cooking all day in the oven. And we eat one on Thanksgiving, one at Christmas, one in February, and one in March. So anyway, I sent Craig over to Walmart after work to pick up a couple. He comes back, no turkeys. He said they were all sold out. I said, 'all sold out'? The ad just came out today, and is good through Thanksgiving! And of course, the ad said select varieties, while supplies last. And that's the kicker. Get them in the store for a deal, but knowing you don't have many at that price, and hope they'll just pay more for another. I hate when stores do that! So, I'll get my turkeys at Meijer. I know they'll be in stock when ever I go there. Just another reason I hate walmart.

It's Alive!

Ummm nope, it isn't.
If you remember, my laptop started acting weird. I would turn it on, the fan and lights would come on, then after 10-25 seconds, would turn itself off, and then right back on. It would cycle like this forever until I held the power button down to turn it off. So anyway, everything I read on the Internet led me to believe it was a problem with the graphic card/motherboard configuration, but I kept thinking, why would it all of a sudden start doing this? Then I ran across a post about the BIOS and the clock. Now my battery died a couple of years ago, and since I always plug it in, I thought no problem. It would beep at me when it started with a message about wrong time. I for a while would correct the time, but later just stopped doing that. Well, the post said something about screwing up the Bios if the clock isn't right, so I got into the bios, and the clock read 2006. I changed it to the present date, exited bios, and bingo! Windows loaded! I thought All right! I just need to get another battery! So I left it plugged in, and put it into sleep mode. This morning, when I opened the case, nothing.........black screen, nothing......Tried the bios thing again, nothing........I'm back to the beginning of starting over and over again. So now I'm thinking it's the cmos battery. I guess I'll try replacing that, and go from there.
But in other news, I was a cleaning freak yesterday. I don't know what got into me, but I cleaned and cleaned. Kitchen cabinets, counters, floors, bathroom, TV room, dusted, and vacuumed. It looks great! I even spot painted.
And it looks to be a very busy week at the Salon.

blah, blah, get a colonoscopy!

Good morning.
After a productive Sunday and Monday, Tuesday we became lazy slugs. It was cold, (low 40's) windy and wet, and with the coming weekend forecast looking a bit warmer, we just didn't have any incentive to get out and finish our fall tasks, so instead, we drove around looking at laptops, since mine is pretty much dead, and too expensive to repair. Didn't buy one. Think we'll wait closer to Christmas when there's more sales. We did stop at Claddagh Irish Pub for a mid day snack. They have some really good wings! though a bit expensive. Later at home, I started to research places of interest for next summers trips while Craig finished up with the laundry from the mo-ho. I also got a call from my doctor to schedule my up-coming Colonoscopy. I booked it for early Dec. to get it over with. This will be my 3rd already. The reason for so many is my dad died from Colon Cancer at the very young age of 59. He was diagnosed at 53 when the removed a tumor the size of a baseball. My doctor said he could easily have had polyps at 43. So that was my first one, followed 5 years later for my 2nd. Both being clear, I was told I could go 7 years next, which is this year. So anyway, fun times. And let this be a reminder for anyone out there who is 50 or older, get a Colonoscopy! It's a very simple procedure, and the easiest cancer to cure if caught early. I finally got Craig in for one when he was 55, and they found 5 polyps. All benign, but better be safe than dead! And we've had 2 customers die from this before the age of 50, so go get tested! Okay, I'm off my soapbox now.
I'm off to work early today. Have a teeth cleaning appt. at 8am. Not a real busy week this week, so maybe I can get my hair cut and highlighted.
So off I go now.

It's cold, and wet, and I'm pissed!

Good afternoon. It's been a very rainy day here. We are currently under a flood advisory. Not that I personally need to worry. We are on fairly high ground. But it's been raining most of the month. And we made a new record! After having the 5th coldest summer ever, we've also just had the first and only October, on record, that hasn't reached 70 degrees. And now just try and convince me of global warming.......

And in other news, I'm pretty sure my laptop is toast. After scouring the Internet, I'm apparently one of the many Lucky buyers of a crappy HP Compaq notebook. My problems fit perfectly with dozens of other people. Even HP recognized this and extended their warranty. Unfortunately mine fell out of extended warranty 5 months ago. I bought mine in April of 2007.
Needless to say, my next one will NOT be a HP!

weather, food and work

A good morning.
We've had a busy couple of days. The weather has been very cool, but at least not wet. Craig mowed the yard, I cut down more stuff. I'm now about 95% done in the back, and 25% done in the front. I'll try to get everything cut down before it starts snowing. Some people prefer to cut some things down in the spring, But at that time, I'm too busy weeding, and digging and dividing for my big plant sale, so I try to do as much in the fall as I can. Craig and I also pulled up the fake 'deck'. For those that don't remember, here's a link when we were putting it down one spring. fake deck
And for dinner yesterday, we had chicken with fried cabbage and fried potatoes. I wanted to coat the chicken with Panko mixed with Parmesan and garlic, but we had no egg beaters to coat the chicken with. But, there was a half jar of light Alfredo sauce in the fridge, so I used that. It turned out real yummy!
And it looks to be a busy week at the Salon. That's good because last week wasn't so much. Even though I was late every day, I had many gaps during the day. That's the downside to a service business, one week, everyone calls, and the next, sometimes not so many. If I could just get everyone to schedule their next appointment before they left, I could fill my weeks more evenly. But guys are the worst for making appointments. Most are the type that will wake up one morning, and decide they need a haircut, and want it that day. And I also have many customers who travel for work, and never know when they'll be in town. So If a lot of these people call all the same week, I tend to work more hours to accommodate them. But that's the price of doing business. Trying to keep the customers happy within reason, right?

not so new tires

Morning boys and girls,
This little( actually quite l-o-n-g) post is a rant today, so be warned.....
So yesterday, I took the mo-ho in for new tires. I had surfed the Internet for prices, and they seemed to be running in the $350-$365 range. So my last call was to Discount Tire . They always seem to have the lowest prices, but they wouldn't touch them because the rims are 19.5. Said they'd be dangerous for their employees. That the 19.5s have a tendency to blow off the rims during installation. But they referred me to Wingfoot . I didn't realize they were a national network of dealers, but more on that later.
They quoted me a price of $319 a tire plus taxes and installation. Seemed like a good deal so I made an appointment for yesterday morning. After dropping off the mo-ho we went and did our banking and shopping. After getting home, Craig said we forgot to ask if they take charge cards. I said I'd call and also make sure we were getting 09 tires. Since they only last 5-7 years, you want the newest tires right? Well, I called, they do take charge cards, but they were putting 08 tires on. The guy said that's all they had. They never get 09 tires in. That's what Goodyear sent them. Well, I was not happy and told him. He said he understood, and they have a 5 year guaranty from date of purchase. But I said now I'll need to replace the tires a year earlier than planned, because I was technically getting 1 year old tires. He said he understood, but that's what they've been putting on all mo-hos. And what did I want him to do? I said I didn't feel i should be paying for new tires, when I'm getting 1 year old tires. He put me on hold to talk with someone and came back and said he could knock $120 off the bill. Since they already had half the tires on, I decided not to be any more of a bitch and said okay. What was I going to do? tell them to put all the old tires back on and I'll look around? At least I'm only paying $299 per tire, and with the Goodyear rebate of $50 per tire, I felt 1 year old tires will be fine. I mean, at least they were stored indoors for that year, and The mo-ho which we bought in 2005, was new in 2002, but the chassis and tires were from 2001. So I guess it's a common issue.
But then again..........back to this Wingfoot network of dealers. After I got the mo-ho home, I was checking out the paperwork from the tire I bought last week. It was also a Wingfoot dealer out of Saint Joesph, MI. Now when they came out to change my flat, they brought out a new tire. A 2009! Now why did this dealer in little Saint Joesph have a 09 and our big dealer in Lansing did not?
Oh well, but then, that tire cost me $389 which I knew was a little high, but when your sitting in a rest area along the highway, you don't have a lot of options. I could have had them just put the spare on, but that would have left us with no spare, with a lot of driving to go. And speaking of the spare, when we had our first flat 4 years ago, after getting home, we went to Discount tire for a replacement. The same dealer who now says they can't touch them, but apparently 4 years ago they could, well, while putting the new tires on yesterday, the guy noticed that the spare tire was a 225, not a 245 like the rest of the tires. That means, it was a completely useless tire we've had for 4 years. That means we never did have a spare! I dug out the paperwork for that tire, and the paper said they installed a 245. If I tried to take it back, I'm sure they'd blow me off. How could I prove it was even the same tire they sold me. Oh well, live and learn.
I know when John reads this, he's going to have a few comments on what I should have done different. I know I should have e-mailed him for advice, but he's helped me out quite a bit already on things, and I hate to bug him all the time, besides, I thought tires would be easy.
That's what I get for thinking!

And more pics of my yard. First up my Sedum garden between the path and the pond. Sedum loves the heat and dry soil. I have about a dozen different varieties planted here.

And this was the project I worked on this morning. I edged the sidewalk, and trimmed back the bushes. We have Little Princess Spirea in front of the house with Blue Cadet Hostas, another variegated Hosta, and a couple of ornamental Grasses.

We also took the mo-ho in for repairs. We still don't have tail lights, and traced it to the mo-ho wiring. And since I'm not very good with that stuff, we took it to Dennis RV, where they've been very reasonable in the past.

In other news.........

Our health insurance went up $71.00 a month each! We are now paying for the both of us $986.00 a month for heath insurance! When will the madness stop! I think we should just cancel it and take our chances. Just put the money in the bank. But Craig thinks as soon as we cancel it, something will happen.
I'm thinking, a THOUSAND DOLLARS A MONTH? And we don't even have Dental, Vision, or Prescription! I don't know, I feel we are insured to death! House ins. life ins. health ins. car ins. It doesn't end!

But in good news, our Michigan State Spartans beat Penn State, and are currently 10th in the national standings, at 14-2!

And we just got our Dec. gas bill, OUCH! They said it would be higher this winter due to the utilities having to buy such expensive fuel last summer when prices were sooo high.

Well, now I'm off to work! And here's another lovely winter scene for all those people who miss this crap our beautiful winters.

Here it comes again!

Okay, I know I'm looking like a broken record here, but this is the coldest, snowiest November I can remember! And you can see from the forecast, it ain't gonna get no better! We are currently under a winter storm warning. They say we'll get 3 inches today, 4 tonight and another 1 tomorrow. Looks like I'll be getting the snow blower out for the first time this year. YUCK!
So today I'll stay inside, (I've already cleaned the Salon this morning) and clean house. It does need it. Craig will do his usual bookwork, and make a Swiss Steak dinner with mashed potatoes and marinated Asparagus.
And go ahead Ken, Mark, John, Phillip, Patti, Randy, Sis, and any other warm weather readers, go ahead and gloat over our weather misfortunes. I can take it!

just saying

Another cold day, 25 out right now. Too damn cold for this time of year! But anyway, yesterday I bundled up (it only got to 31) and went out to clean up the area between the garage and fence where we park the mo-ho for the winter. Last year we waited until all the leaves were down and all the debris was cleaned up before we parked the mo-ho. And we left it plugged in all winter with sonic pest repelers plugged in. And we put mothballs around the tires . Well, we had no mice last year, so we're doing the same routine this year. So after I got the area all cleaned out, we parked the mo-ho. It fits like a glove the the space next to the garage. And its a good thing I did that yesterday, for it's frikkin snowing again this morning! It's too damn early for this crap! Winter is long enough as it is! What happened to global warming!
Anyway, For dinner we had Panko Chicken with Broiled Marinated Zucchini, and Mashed Potatoes and Gravy. And since we work late on Wed. and Thur., we also made some steamed Broccoli, Honey Ginger Carrots, and Asian Rice to go with our left over Panko Chicken and our Teriaki Chicken. So we have 2 meals ready to heat and eat.
We've also bought 3 frozen Turkeys so far. Right now they are so cheap, and we love Turkey! We'll have one for Thanksgiving, one for Christmas, and one in Feb.
Well, that's all I got for now, so it's off to work!

Just another day

Yesterday was a long one at work, and today looks to be the same. I came home in the dark yesterday. Yuck! Soon I'll be going to and from work in the dark. I think that's what I dislike most about winter.
In other news....
Last Friday when I got to work, The thermostat was set at 68, but it was reading 64. We had no heat. Well, after making sure it wasn't the thermostat, and we hadn't blown a fuse I called the repair man. He came and found some part not working, had to go get a replacement. Then found another bad part, (it's a really old rooftop unit) and got it running again. He said they'd send an invoice in the mail. I knew right then it was going to cost us if he didn't want to give us a bill. Well, yesterday it came.......$860.00! How do they justify that kind of price? And when you run a business, you don't have time to shop around for estimates, you gotta keep the business running!
And in other news....
Craig ordered his new glasses to a tune of $440.00.
And still more news.....
Last Saturday when I went to work, It was about 7:15 in the morning, my first appt. was 7:30. I'm driving down this 4 lane road with no streetlights. So I drive in the inside lane so as not to possibly hit anyone walking on the side of the road because it's so dark and the headlights don't shine that far. Anyway I'm going along, and all of a sudden, there's this dead dear, all mangled up laying right in the road in front of me. I slam on the brakes, but too late. I go right over the top of him. I hear this scrapping sound, and hope it didn't do any damage. I get to work and wait for daylight so I can see if there's any. As I look, there's this horrid smell, and bit's of stuff hanging underneath. But it appears no damage. So when Craig gets to work later, (he always comes in a little early for his coffee) I hand him the keys and ask him to take it to the car wash, and get the under body flush. He gives me this weird look, so I tell him the whole story. Good thing it wasn't a buck! But then, by the time I hit it, it had been run over a lot!
Well, that's enough rambling on for now.

Ouch!!! and our funny friday

Well, the electrician fixed our sign at work. And he had to get new bulbs for it. For some stupid reason, the sign company put in very special fixtures, that holds two 5 ft bulbs, and two 6 ft bulbs. Some sort of high output for brighter lighting. So now, sit down and hear the price for 4, that's right, just 4 bulbs.............$122.00!!!!
I said are you sh*#in me?
He showed me the purchase receipt. He only charged us what he paid for them. They are unusual bulbs that last for years. He asked when we last replaced them and I said this was the first time. The sign went up 11 years ago. He said that's why they're expensive. You get over 10 years of use. Oh well, what are you gonna do.

A Wednesday rant

What's wrong with this picture! No, not the actual pic of my truck. More on that later.
Okay, I'm in the mood for a good rant today, so be warned!
I just picked up my truck yesterday from the ford dealer,
where I had an issue I thought stemming from last fall when I had my brakes done. Last fall I took in in for a grinding noise, and left with $1400 worth of repairs. I needed brake pads, rotors, bla bla bla. (I wish I new more about cars, but I don't)
Well, of course this issue was unrelated to the complete brake job I had last year, even though it started right afterwards. When I came to a stop, the petal would give, like I had air in the lines, or something like that. I took it in last January, and it wouldn't do it for them. (isn't that how it always is?) So they told me to drive it until it did it on a more regular basis. So I finally take it in, since it was doing it all the time, and they tell me I have a cracked bla bla, and it's in the rotor assembly, bla bla, it's part of the anti-lock braking system, bla bla, and it'll be $582. And what can I say? I haven't a clue what he just said. He could have been speaking Chinese for all I knew, so of course I said okay.......
Now this truck is a 2001 Ford Ranger Extended Cab, 4 wheel drive, with only 26000 miles. I have just spent $2000 the last year on repairs. Craig has a 1998 Honda Accord, that's never been in the shop! What is wrong with this picture!
And the unions wonder why people buy foreign cars?
Now Craig's Honda was actually assembled here in the states, so why can they build cars that last and American manufacturers can't. And it's not just the repairs! The front seat is ripping, and the tailgate is rusting thru! And it's not just this truck! I had two Chevy's before this and both were falling apart within 5 years! And I don't put that much mileage on them! My Ranger only has 26000 miles! Shouldn't parts last longer than that?
Okay, I'm done now........and no, I don't feel better for the rant, I sure could have used that $2000 elsewhere.

Case in point. In this story, you could easily substitute Boyfriend for XP, and husband for Vista. I have XP on my desktop, and Vista on my notebook. I have twice the memory on Vista, but XP blows thru apps, while Vista prods along. I love my XP! And Vista sucks!

boring, and a rant

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. Not a lot going on to post about.
Had a very busy week at work, and been busy around the house and yard also. Got one side of the mo-ho waxed, (damn that things big!) And hopefully fixed a water leak. I'm getting water on the dash of the mo-ho, and think it was coming from the marker lights. So yesterday, removed all the old silicone, and applied fresh. We'll see next time it rains. Hate the thought of replacing the windshield.

We're still looking for the right stand for our new 32 inch TV, then I'll add pictures for that.
And now for a little rant!
I want to say, I Love and hate my new digital TV. The picture is amazing! If you can keep it tuned in!
I learned that digital signals don't travel as far as Analog. And with Analog, if the signal isn't real good, you'll get some snow or sparkies, but you can still watch the show. With digital, if the signal is even a wee bit weak, you get what is called digital break-up. The picture will freeze, and you get little squares appearing across the screen. And sometimes the picture disappears completely! Of course I have only rabbit ears for my antenna. I think they're just trying to make everyone get a satellite dish or cable. I think that's

the real reason behind this ending Analog thing.

it's not funny

No Funny Friday today. I'm not in the mood.
I was right. No early spring this year.
Not even a regular spring this year.
Maybe we'll get no spring this year.
Today's March 28th. And as you can see from
the pic, it snowed last night.
We've been averaging about 15 degrees
below normal all month.
Our Daffodils should be in full bloom in 2 weeks.
I haven't even seen them poking thru the ground yet.
So I'm in a real funk! I know spring will eventually come, But winter's already too long to start with. And now our short summer will be even shorter! The snow started last November, and next week is April. That means 5 months of winter! We're suppose to have 4 seasons. Not 1 major and 3 minor ones!
I guess your noticing I hate winter!
But then I know of only one reader I have that likes winter,(Janna) and I think she needs meds anyway.(hehe)
So I'm done with today's rant.
Soon, spring will be here.
